I’m sure we can all agree that we wish Darius Morris had stayed in Ann Arbor for another year. Many NBA Experts have spoken out that if he had, and improved his jump shot, that he would be a lock for the lottery. Point guards with Morris’ size are hard to come by. This is why it is easy to see that Morris does have a future in the league as (atleast) a rotation player. I hope he puts in the time to develop his jump shot and goes to a team that will let him develop his game while giving him the playing time to reach his potential. Now onto the different projections:
Chad Ford, ESPN: 8th in the 2nd Rd. to the Houston Rockets (6/21/11)
The Rockets would like to add some size in the backcourt and have been fans of Morris for a while. At No. 38, he’s worth the risk. He has a lot of Andre Miller to his game.
Sean Deveney, Sporting News: 26th in the 1st Rd. to the Dallas Mavericks (6/21/11)
The Knicks are still keeping tabs on Morris, and if they can’t get a wild card like Biyombo, Morris may not get past No. 17.
Sam Amick, Sports Illustrated: 23rd in the 1st Rd. to the Houston Rockets (6/14/11)
No, he’s not related to the Morris twins. But the Michigan product is the kind of big point guard the Rockets are lacking in 6-foot starter Kyle Lowry. He’s even bigger than backup Goran Dragic (6-3), which doesn’t matter nearly as much as the fact that a source says Houston is enamored with Darius Morris’ on-court and off-court presence. Vucevic is also a target who would help with the much-needed depth at center, not only because of Yao Ming’s looming free agency and career-threatening health issues but also because of Brad Miller’s recently revealed microfracture surgery.
Aran Smith, HoopsHype: 23rd in the 1st Rd. to the Houston Rockets (6/14/11)
After moving Aaron Brooks during the season, the Rockets find themselves weak at the PG position. Morris could be the only “pure” PG in the entire draft. A big point with excellent floor general abilities. He lacks great quickness but shows the ability to run a team and make those around him better. Morris is probably a little bit of a reach here, but teams really like his ability to pass and run a team.
