On Switching his Commitment To Michigan from Ohio State: “I can’t go there (Ohio State) and take penalties for something I never did. Ohio State is a great program. I’m just not sure how long it will take them to recover. I want a solid, grounded coaching staff with a safe environment. Where there aren’t such tough questions.”
On Brady Hoke: “He is the type of guy I want to play for. (Hoke) has an incredible amount of passion. I believe the Michigan-Ohio border is now open. I think you’re going to see eight or nine guys from the state of Ohio going over to Michigan this year.”
ANALYSIS
Sean O’Connell, UMGoBlog.com: “As we all know Kalis is a HUGE get for Michigan for many reasons. The first thing that I notice when I watch Kyle block is that he’s absolutely nasty. The kid finishes his blocks, often backing up defenders 10-15 yards and firmly planting them on their backsides. He plays with very good lower body technique, using short, quick steps when moving. He tends to get a little high, but that is easily correctable. Kalis does have the size and talent to play early, but would benefit greatly from a redshirt year. I could see him at right tackle or either guard position. Kyle has the tools to be a future All-B1G offensive lineman, and possibly more.”
Allen Trieu, Scout.com: “Kalis is a tough, strong lineman who dominates consistently. He plays the game hard and is an excellent run blocker and drive blocker. He plays with good leverage and finishes his blocks strong. He shows the ability to pull and lead, and is coordinated and athletic in the open field. He has good feet all around, which is also evident in pass pro. If there’s a knock, it’s that he may not be long enough for left tackle.”
Scouts Inc., ESPN.com: “Kalis is a tough run blocker capable of controlling defenders with his upper body playing strength… This guy is a tough customer; displays a nasty finishing attitude while dominating his present level of competition. His arm length and short set ability should serve him well in pass protection; can bend and play flat footed, displaying the ability to play stout vs. the bull rush. Although his playing strength is a positive we see the need to polish his initial location and arm extension in pass pro. Kalis has the size and physical tools to become a dominant run blocker at the BCS level of play.”
