QUOTES
Why he chose basketball over baseball: “People see a 6-10 shooter and they get very interested. I’ve always enjoyed playing baseball since I was a little kid, but my dream has always been to play big-time basketball. What changed my mind was when I found out that it was possible.”
On John Beilein: "I’m a tall shooter. That’s exactly what I am. Right now they don’t really have a guy like that. That’s why he’s bringing me in there. Hopefully he can work with me. He’s a big Bills fan. He schedules practice around the Bills games sometimes. It was really cool to meet him."
Worcester Head Coach Eddy Reilly on McLimans’: “He’s a very relentless, competitive kid. That’s what endeared him to a lot of college recruiters. I think it will take him a while to gain the strength and physicality to play and compete at the Big Ten level, but once he gets that, watch out.”
ANALYSIS
Scouts, Inc.: “McLimans has a very thin build and needs to add strength to his frame, but he does not play as a traditional, back-to-the-basket post man. He instead floats out on the perimeter and has range that extends to the 3-point line. McLimans also runs the floor very well and can hit 3′s in transition as a trailer on the break. He does not rebound the ball very well or block shots at a high
clip, but his shooting ability really stretches defenses. Michigan coach John Beilein likes to have his bigs stretch the floor with their shooting and McLimans certainly fits the bill.”
UM Hoops: “McLimans brings length and skill down low; he can dribble it pretty well and definitely shoot it. Those are both traits that Beilein values so you can see why he got the offer. However I don’t know how effective he will be banging in the paint in the Big Ten without some added size. With the influx of big men I think at least one of them ends up red-shirting so Blake will certainly have some proving to do.”
Scout: “Very lean at this stage but has a full year to put on bulk at his new prep school known for producing D1 players. Reportedly can shoot from beyond the three point line on a consistent basis. Has a very nice touch on short range shots, but must work a bit on post moves.”
Worcester Head Coach Ed Riley: He’s a very intriguing kid. He’s 6-foot-10 ½ and he weighs about 212. He’s a little on the thin side. He’s not your typical high school or AAU product. He was a 3-sport athlete in a small high school. He’s fundamentally sound, knows how to play basketball. He can do lefty-righty, runs and has a high motor. He plays at a guard pace.”
