QUOTES

On committing to Michigan: “They [Michigan] have always been my favorite team growing up. Playing there has kind of been a dream for me. Of course I’m someone who wants to follow their dreams.”

Why he committed early: “I just feel we’re going to have a good team this year and I didn’t want any more pressure on me or the team than there needed to be. I knew Michigan was the right place for me. Why hold off and led anything build up?”

What he needs to improve on: “I want to improve my lateral speed. And improve my side-to-side movement. I want Scoutto change directions faster.”

ANALYSIS

Scouts, Inc: “Wilkens has good size, physical tools and a high motor for a program to develop into a solid linebacker at the next level. Could potentially play in the middle or on the strongside and that versatility should make him coveted. Has a lot of experience playing on the line of scrimmage and could project well as a 3-4 outside linebacker as well, particularly if his tall, well-built frame continues to grow and physically develop. At his best playing in a phone booth.. Overall, we like Wilkens’ potential as a Sam ‘backer in a traditional 4-3 defense. A guy who could play up on the line on situational run downs and also stack the tight end from normal LB depth. Stock would be higher if had better hips and change-of-direction skill.”

Touch The Banner: “First of all, he’s not afraid to hit. Once he latches onto a ballcarrier, ballcarrier goes BOOM. He also seems to have good play recognition; he’s not a player who seems to make bad reads but then compensates by overwhelming athleticism.”

Ed Dalton, Trinity Head Coach: “He’s an unbelievable physical talent. He’s very muscular, and he has a 28-inch waist. He looks like an NFL player today. He’s not going to take a year in college to get that physical look. He already has it. He’s blessed physically.”
