Biggest Strength and what he needs to work on: “My biggest strength as a football player would have to be my first step. I need to work on everything but especially my conditioning, which is something I am going to work really hard on so I can play both ways next year. Another thing that I need to work on is my pad level. Sometimes my body is too upright and colleges do not like to see that.”

When he plans to make decision (4/27): “I would like to make that decision in the next month and a half or so, but it really depends on some situations.”

Sean O’Connell, UMGoBlog.com: “Hurst is a very explosive athlete, who plays defensive tackle and even a little fullback. He has a explosive first step and very good speed for a kid his size. Other than standing a little too upright, his technique is pretty solid. Maurice uses his hands very well, has a really nice spin move and has a very good motor. I’m amazed at how fast this kid is. He reminds me a lot of a kid that Michigan was after in 2010 named Jatashun Beachum, who is now at Arkansas. A more popular name might be Melvin Ingram.”

With apologies to Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the answer to the meaning of life the universe and everything is not 42.

It’s 16.

At least that’s the answer for Michigan Wolverine fans this season.

After weeks of breaking down game tape  and evaluating the incoming football roster for the upcoming season, I have reached the following conclusion:

It’s all about Denard Xavier Robinson.

Of course, he needs no introduction. Since he grabbed hold of the starting QB position two seasons ago amid the implosion of Tate Forcier he’s taken Wolverine fans on a wild ride. From the 2010 Notre Dame game where he gained 258 yards while announcing his entry into the Heisman Trophy race, to last season’s improbable last minute comeback, again against the irish, to lead the Wolverines to victory in the first night game in history of The Big House- Denard is the spark plug that makes the Big Blue Machine go.

On October 14, 2010, the Michigan athletic department announced that the Wolverines would travel to Dallas, Texas to face the Alabama Crimson Tide for the 2012 season opener.

“This is a great way to kick off the 2012 season with two of the nation’s winningest college football programs,” said U-M director of athletics Dave Brandon. “We are excited about playing a regular-season game in the state of Texas, a region of the country where we have traditionally recruited. Our goal is to get as many Michigan fans to the game as possible to witness this match-up of traditional powers.”

On Thursday April 19 2012, the members of the Michigan Marching were informed via email that…

“…it has recently been decided that the Michigan Marching Band will not be traveling to Texas for the Cowboy Classic game vs. Alabama this fall. The Athletic Department is treating the Alabama game as a standard road contest, not as a bowl game. Therefore, there is no bowl-style budget available to bring the band to Texas.”

What happened during the 18 months between these announcements may take some time to uncover but reaction from Wolverine fans was known immediately. Less than 5 days later the athletic department reversed itself and it was announced that band would be traveling to the game.

Had a huge April, adding 8 prospects. 4 star prospects Joey Bosa (DE-FL-5 stars on some sites), Ezekiel Elliott (RB-MO), Marcus Baugh (TE-CA), J.T. Barnett (DTQB-TX), Alex Anzalone (LB-PA) and three stars Jayme Thompson (S-OH) and Tracy Sprinkle (DT-OH). Lewis Neal (LB-NC) had also verballed, but recently opened things back up after an intriguing offer from LSU.

Notre Dame closed up their very solid offensive line class adding 4 star guard John Montelus. The Irish also received verbals from 4 star tight end Mike Heuerman and 3 star corner Devin Butler.

Bill O’Brien continues to have very good success on the recruiting trail. He bolstered his defensive front gaining the pledge of 4 star DT Greg Webb. PSU also nabbed OL prospect Andrew Nelson.

Sparty has a solid group so far. They gained a commit from 3 star Ohio linebacker Shane Jones (LB-OH)as well as 3 star dual-threat QB Damion Terry (DTQB-PA).

Making the largest leap in the rankings this month are the Iowa Hawkeyes. All seven of their commits came during the month of April, led by borderline 4 star Indianapolis defensive end David Kenney. 3 stars Nathan Bazata (DT-NE), Colin Goebel (OL-IL), Brant Gressel (DT-OH), Delano Hill (S-MI), John Kenny (LB-IN) and Derrick Willies (WR-IL).

Nebraska also had a productive month in recruiting. Their biggest coup was 4 star linebacker Josh Baneras (LB-NE). Others on their way to Lincoln include three star prospects Courtney Love (LB-OH) and Wisconsin product AJ Natter (DE-WI).

The Badgers had their busiest month to date as well led by 4ish star defensive end Chikwe Obasih (WI). Bucky also bolstered their receiving corps with 3 star tight end T.J. Watt (WI) and 3 star receiver Rob Wheelwright (OH).

New head man Tim Beckman has done very well for himself so far on the recruiting trail. It seems that the Illini have landed their quarterback of the future in 4 star Bolingbrook, IL product Aaron Bailey. Bailey is one of the top dual threat QB’s in this class and was a fantastic get for Illinois. The Illini finished off the month with three stars Jarrod Clements (DT-OH), Christian DiLauro (DE/TE–OH) and Merrick Jackson (DT-IL). Also jumping into the fold is Peoria, IL running back Kendrick Foster.

Matthew Alviti (QB-IL) was a great get for the Wildcats. Alviti is widely considered as one of the top dual-threat QB’s in this class.
