Pete Cunningham, Scout, recently caught up with 2010 WR Recruit Drew Dileo. Dileo committed to U of M without ever seeing the campus. Dileo finally visited the Big House and here are a few excerpts from the article:
On Visiting Michigan: “Everything was great up there – facilities, campus, the people – even better than I expected. I met with all the coaches, shook their hands, and met coach Rodriguez for the first time face-to-face. It was great.”
On receiving a scholarship offer: “Whenever you talk about the University of Michigan, you think about all the history there. The championships, coaches and players. When the offer came, I just thanked God I had the opportunity to come up there.”
“Most people’s reaction is the same -- they say, ‘Man, its cold up there. But hey, that’s what they make jackets for! If you have the opportunity to come to Michigan…yeah it may be cold, but it’s the University of Michigan!”
On Mike Barwis: “We’ll just have to see how it goes. (Barwis) gave me and my parents a little taste of what it’s going to be like. He’s everything you could want in a strength coach. He’s working, putting his time in with the players and working to get the same out of us. He does a very good job, and he’s a great guy, I loved it. He’s a very high energy guy.”
On his senior season: “Before I was worried about what schools I was going to visit, and what camps I was going to. Now I’m not going to any camps at all. I’m just focusing more on my senior season and working out hard.”
Here is a video of Drew (#3) as a sophomore earning the MVP in the state championship game in 2007, He touches the ball at 1:15, 2:20, 2:55; 3:50.
