Coming and Going’s of the Opponents III

by Lance Callihan 30. May 2009 03:50

And now here’s our weekly installment updating and familiarizing ourselves with what is going on with our future opponents…

Here’s updates on all of U of M’s scheduled opponents this year:

Western Michigan: Head Football Coach Bill Cubit recently offered a scholarship to Matt Zakrzewski from Traverse City, MI

Notre Dame: Notre Dame Blog Blue-Gray Sky reports that The Fighting Irish has secured its fourth oral commitment for the 2010 recruiting class, TE Alex Welch.

Eastern Michigan: Nothing to update here as EMU announced their football class for women on July 25, 2009, lol.

Indiana: Two updates for Indiana this week.  1) Scout’s team preview, stating that Chappell is the difference between success or failure  2) Rivalry Esq.’s breakdown of QB Ben Chappell’s mechanics

Iowa: Solid analysis by Dr. Saturday of Yahoo! predicting that the upcoming season Hawkeyes will differ from last year’s running attack to a more pass-oriented “Stanzi” scheme

Delaware State: Gene Wojciechowski says that nothing good can come from the Delaware State/Michigan game this fall

Penn State: Deja Vu.  For Penn State this week we also have two very similar updates. 1) Scout’s Team Preview states that the Nittany Lions’ talent level is ridiculously high  2) Rivalry Esq.’s breakdown of QB Daryll Clark’s mechanics

Illinois: Season ticket sales for the Fighting Illini are moving steadily along

Purdue:  This week we have a five question segment with new QB Robert Marve by the Indy Star blog.  Marve describes himself as a, “"A gunslinger, probably. That's all I did in high school. I'm excited to get back into the spread (offense)."

Wisconsin: AD Barry Alvarez says he is in talks with Notre Dame to play a series of football games

Ohio State: OSU Blog Eleven Warriors reports that NBA prospect B.J. Mullens isn’t lacking self-confidence especially with this latest quote. “I can get compared to Kevin Garnett, his inside game. Outside game, Dirk Nowitzki, explosive like Amar’e (Stoudemire). Those three guys I like to compare myself and mix them all together and doa little bit of triple threat.”  - All I have to say is really?? If so, then you will hands-down be the first overall-pick in the draft B.J.!!

And now those not on the schedule this year:

Minnesota: Head Football Coach Tim Brewster recently Tweeted, “I love getting calls from High School coaches saying the Gophers are flat out-working other schools on the road!! Go Gophers!!”

Northwestern: Rivalry Esq. breaks down whether last year’s 9-4 showing was a fluke
