History will record that the Wolverines fell in overtime to the Spartans 26-20.
The statistics will show that Michigan was dominated for most of the game before mounting a furious comeback to force overtime.
The Spartans have beaten the Wolverines twice in a row for the first time since the late 1960's.
The Spartans have earned a well-deserved victory that probably saved their season.
But that's not the biggest story of the game.
Standing tall over the drama is Michigan QB Tate Forcier.
His emergence is nothing short of amazing. During spring practice, Wolverine fans still smarting over a disappointing 3-9 campaign last season, seized on Tate as the best hope to turn things around. The level of hype surrounding Tate had reached a level that players rarely live up to. But five games into his career he shown himself to be the real deal.
Today against MSU after being completely for most of the game, Tate directed two scoring drives during the last four minutes of the game.
Bad snap? It doesn't faze Tate.
Monsoon? Whatever.
No timeouts? no problem.
Yeah, he made some dangerous passes during 4th quarter. And his interception in overtime was a backbreaker. But it only showed that sometimes Tate is mortal.
Five games into his career he already delivered some of most electrifying performances in Michigan history.
There a great line from The Natural- I've never seen anything like it. It's incredible! Anything he wants to do, he does!
That's what it's like watching Tate Forcier so far this season.
As the game ended, the sun broke through the clouds and Spartans celebrated as if they had won a championship.
Spartans, enjoy your victory.
I had a clear view of the clouds that brought carried the driving rain that fell during Michigan's drive to tie that game in the final seconds of the 4th quarter.
Looking down on the field, it's clear that there's another front about to engulf college football.
And it's Michigan Tate.
