Will the New Big House in 2010 Open against Georgia?

by Lance Callihan 1. July 2009 02:45

Ryan Kartje, Michigan Daily, blogs that Michigan may open the Big House in 2010 against SEC power Georgia; subsequently travel to Athens in 2011.  I have to be completely honest with everybody, I don’t remember the last rumor that made me:

You see, I moved to Atlanta, GA, last September and I live 45 minutes from Athens.  I can’t be impartial on this rumor.  But lets think about this for a minute.  Going into this year both teams are in rebuilding years, non-national championship contenders.  (Note: Don’t let my neighbor know I said this) With the losses of Moreno and Stafford, Georgia needs a year to be primed and ready to go, so a possibly U of M/UGA match-up in 2010 could be huge.  Think of the storylines: 1) Big Ten vs. SEC 2) RichRod vs. Georgia.  Remember what happened last time Rich Rodriguez faced off with Georgia?

The more I think about it, I’m taking the rest of today off to NOT scroll the message boards.  Why? Because I don’t want to see this rumor destroyed.  I’m taking today to enjoy the possibility of seeing the Maize ‘n Blue battle Between the Hedges against the Bulldogs.

Hey Brian,

I live in ATL and don't you dare lump my Dawgs in the same class as the Maize & Blue (just kidding).  Seriously though, UGA is coming off of a DISAPPOINTING 10 win season, while UM finished closer to 10 losses than 10 wins (if my memory isn't failing me here?).  Anyways, you're correct, nobody that isn't a card carrying member of the DAWGnation is expecting much from the Red & Black this season but I'll be very surprised if UGA doesn't make some noise in the SEC if not in the Nt'l scene this season.  Are we a likely B(c)S Title contender, no, certainly not over the likes of Fla, Texas, OU, or the media darlings, USC but remember, we're in the SEC and also, we play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the entire country.  The Dawgs SOS will easily have em' in a BCS bowl game IF they can once again win 10 or more games again this year.  BTW, I ain't saying we will but don't count us out, that's all.

Also, I was at that 2006 Sugar Bowl (3rd row), the ONLY Sugar Bowl ever held at the GA Dome due to Hurricane Katrina and I have tons of respect for Rich Rod's coaching ability.  The Mountaineers came out w/a great gameplan and flawless execution and really took it to us that day.  The Dawgs made a great comeback but in the end, a converted 4th down fake punt sealed the victory for WVU.  Yep, I feel confident that CRR will get things turned around in Ann Arbor real soon and UM will get back to owning those blowhards from the Buckeye State (I'm SOOOO sick of the Scarlet & Gray fans).  They don't EVER shutup, even after getting their @sses kicked.  Yeah, I just got finished spending 6 months in Cleveland, OH (Oct. 08 - Mar. 09) on a long term business project.

Anyways, good post, and aside from what I said above, you're right, in 2010, the Dawgs & the Wolverines will be getting much more preseason hype than this year.  My GOSH, I'd pay way more $$$ than you would imagine to go up to Ann Arbor in Sept. and watch my Dawgs invade the Big House.  SEC & Big 10 need to get some games scheduled so that we have more than the usual Florida bowl games for bragging rights head to head.  I do know that Tenn. & OSU have agreed to a home & home series in the later part of the next decade so why not UGA vs UM to start it off?  I just checked and UGA does show 9/18/10 as a TBD non-conference date so I don't think it would be the season opener, but I ain't complaining if I have to wait until week 3 to make the journey North.

Hope this rumor comes true?!
