The Blueprint to Filling Out the 2012 Class Part 2

Michigan now has 22 commitments for the 2012 football class and with the final number is still holding firm at 26 spots. Here are the remaining few that could fill out the class.

Quarterback

With Gunner Kiel (Indiana), Maty Mauk (Missouri) and Devin Fuller (Eliminated Michigan) all going elsewhere, it looks very unlikely that Michigan takes a quarterback in this class.

Running Backs (Dunn or none?)

It looks like the running back position is not a major priority this year and it looks like it’s coming down to one guy.Bri'Onte Dunn

1. Bri’onte Dunn. He made his way back up to AA a few weeks ago for the BBQ, but continues to stick with his verbal pledge to OSU. As time goes by it seems that he is warming up more and more to switching to the good guys. One of the reasons for this is his cousin 2013 prospect Dymonte Thomas, who has said that Michigan continues to be his leader. He is also being recruited heavily by fellow Ohioans and current Wolverines Kyle Kalis and Tom Strobel. I still contend that OSU is going to have to receive MAJOR sanctions if Dunn were to flip and with new information still coming out, this seems more and more likely.

2. Greg Garmon. Things have cooled quite a bit with Greg since his visit a few months back. There was some speculation that Michigan was back in the race for him, but those rumors seem to be false at this point.

Wide Receivers (Wanting or 1 or 2)

Darryl Stonum getting a redshirt for the upcoming season relieves some of the pressure of taking two receivers this season, but it is still a need. We need a kid that can stretch the field pretty badly.

1. Amara Darboh. Visited UM a few weeks ago and really liked his visit. Enough so that he is planning a return visit with his family for the Western game. He could very well end his recruitment at that time, but with Florida and a few other new schools knocking at the door he could drag it out for a while.

2. Jordan Payton. The Cali standout recently named Cal and Michigan as his co-favorites. Jordan has planned an official for the ND game.

Michigan Recruiting Update (6/3/2011)

I will no longer predict a lull in recruiting as long as Brady Hoke is the coach of this team. Anthony Standifer made it up to AA on Wednesday for a visit and made a surprise commitment to the Wolverines. Standifer was a bit of a sleeper up until a few weeks ago when Michigan offered him. He’s a good sized kid at 6’1” and should be a nice compliment to Terry Richardson on the other side. Michigan legacy recruit Allen Gant also made his pledge to the Wolverines this week. Gant has been one of the top player in Ohio since his freshman year and will be a strong safety for the Wolverines. Michigan was actually expecting New Yorker Wayne Morgan to commit as well, but that never materialized. It seems that the two parties have gone their separate ways and both will look elsewhere.

Updates

Sam Webb wrote in the Detroit News a great piece about the effects of the firing of Jim Tressel will have on some Ohio recruits.

The Bleacher Report talks about the same thing.

Scout.com’s Allen Trieu gives his thoughts on recent Michigan commits Allen Gant and Anthony Standifer in his Midwest Recruiting Notebook.

TomVH of MGOBLOG reports that Cali DT Aziz Shittu has reopened his recruitment and Michigan might get a visit.

In older news, Adolphus Washington names his top 5. He and his teammate Dwayne Stanford would like to attend the same school and will be visiting Michigan sometime soon.

Georgia defensive end Jordan Jenkins recently said that he might visit Michigan. A week later he reports that he’ll stick closer to home ($ scout.com).

Crystal Ballin’ UM’s 2012 Recruiting Class (5/28/11)

The first list had 20 kids. I’m thinking that we end up with somewhere around 22, but to make it easier for me I’m making it 24.

Alden Hill1. QB – Tyler O’Connor. Still no offer. UM is probably waiting on Gunner Kiel’s decision before they offer another QB.

2. RB – Alden Hill. Unless OSU goes down pretty hard we aren’t going to get Dunn, so Hill might be our best option eventually.

3. WR – Aaron Burbridge. Michigan has pulled even with Sparty, possibly even nosing ahead. He has some work to do to qualify, but he will probably end up in this class.

4. WR – Malik Gilmore. Has stated many times he’d like to visit.

5. TE – Devin Funchess. Michigan commit!

6. TE – A.J. Williams. Michigan commit!

7. OL – Ben Braden. Michigan commit!

8. OL – Caleb Stacey. Michigan commit!

9. OL – Jordan Diamond. Has liked Michigan for a long time and close friend Chris Bryant was in the 2011 class. He could decide this summer.

10. OL – Jordan Simmons. Still holding on to my dream.

11. OL – Erik Magnuson. Still has Michigan in his top group and is visiting in a few weeks.

12. DE – Pharaoh Brown. Michigan commit!

13. DE – Matt Godin. Michigan commit!

Michigan Football Recruiting Update (5/19/2011)

Terry RichardsonRecruiting continues to stay hot for the Wolverines with the commit of Detroit, MI cornerback Terry Richardson. The Cass Tech Technician is the next in line of undersized, but very gifted corners to commit to Michigan. Richardson has very good hips and a nice back pedal. He’ll need a little bulking up, but has the skill set to be a good player. Terry picked Michigan over Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC.

New Offers

Devan Bogard (S) – 6’1”  180 lbs. Cleveland, OH.

Drae Bowles (WR) – 6’1”  205 lbs. Jackson, TN.

Faith Ekakitie (DT/SDE) – 6’3”  275 lbs. Lake Forest, IL

Allen Gant (S) – 6’2”  205 lbs. Sylavania, OH. Legacy recruit.

Eli Harold (WDE) – 6’3”  220 lbs. Virginia Beach, VA.

Will Hines (CB/S) – 6’1”  175 lbs. Michigan will be a factor here.

Michigan Football Recruiting Update (4/8/11)

Scout.com recently released its top 300 prospects list for the 2012 class. Below is a list of kids who have expressed interest in Michigan and where we stand.

QUARTERBACKS

Gunner Kiel (#1 QB, #17 overall) – has an offer. ND lean? Not sure about his interest level in Michigan, but if Maty Mauk were to commit to ND first that could open things up.

Zeke Pike (#3 , #25) – has visited. Michigan is high on his list.

Maty Mauk (#5, #116) – has visited. Another ND lean? If not, Michigan is right up there.

Bennie Coney (#22, NR) – Coney just missed the top 300 and is a offer from RR and crew. There was still some interest a while back, but I would imagine he is further down the big board of QB’s.

RUNNING BACKS

Keith Marshall (#1 RB, #5 overall) – A kid everybody wants. Recently narrowed his list to around 12 schools, with Michigan being one of them.

Bri’onte Dunn (#4, #28) – an OSU verbal, but will visit Michigan at some point.

Wes Brown (#6, #44) – will be visiting for the spring game with Good Counsel teammates.

Greg Garmon (#11, #65) – could play other positions at 6’2", but most schools want him at RB. There is Michigan interest, but has stated he would like to play in the south.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Dorial Green-Beckham (#1 WR, #2 overall) – Dorial is an absolute freak of nature and will be a very tough get. The only reason I put him in here is because he and Zeke Pike have been talking. I can dream right??

Stefon Diggs (#2 S, #16 ) – Scout projects Diggs as a safety, but most schools want him at wide out. He will be visiting for the spring game.

Aaron Burbridge (#11, #84) – most think he is a Sparty lean, but you never know.

Dwayne Stanford (#16, #106) – grew up watching Michigan and seems pretty open.

Malik Gilmore (#40, #259) – seems to be intrigued by Michigan and Notre Dame and is open.
