Crystal Ballin’ UM’s 2012 Recruiting Class

Here is my first guess on how I believe the recruiting class might look like at the end of the season. Remember recruiting is very fluid and the final list will probably look very different. At this point I have Michigan at 18 scholarships with the Cullen Christian and DJ Williamson transfers. This number will likely grow to around 20-22 when all is said and done, but for this list I’ll keep it at 20 prospects. Again, this is purely my guess at this point in the game and February is a long ways away.

1. QB – Tyler O’Connor. No offer as of yet, but since the Pike commit to Auburn things have been heating up.

2. WR – Malik Gilmore. Wants to visit Michigan and ND.

3. TE – Devin Funchess. Michigan Commit.

4. TE – A.J. Williams. Michigan Commit.

5. TE – Ron Thompson. Even with Funchess and Williams in the fold, I think Michigan takes him.

6. OT/OG – Ben Braden. Michigan Commit.

7. OG – Caleb Stacey. Michigan Commit.

8. OT – Jordan Diamond. Has stated for quite some time now that Michigan is on top.

9. OT – Erik Magnuson. Has Michigan in his top 3 along with Miami and Oregon.

Michigan Football Recruiting Update (4/8/11)

Scout.com recently released its top 300 prospects list for the 2012 class. Below is a list of kids who have expressed interest in Michigan and where we stand.

QUARTERBACKS

Gunner Kiel (#1 QB, #17 overall) – has an offer. ND lean? Not sure about his interest level in Michigan, but if Maty Mauk were to commit to ND first that could open things up.

Zeke Pike (#3 , #25) – has visited. Michigan is high on his list.

Maty Mauk (#5, #116) – has visited. Another ND lean? If not, Michigan is right up there.

Bennie Coney (#22, NR) – Coney just missed the top 300 and is a offer from RR and crew. There was still some interest a while back, but I would imagine he is further down the big board of QB’s.

RUNNING BACKS

Keith Marshall (#1 RB, #5 overall) – A kid everybody wants. Recently narrowed his list to around 12 schools, with Michigan being one of them.

Bri’onte Dunn (#4, #28) – an OSU verbal, but will visit Michigan at some point.

Wes Brown (#6, #44) – will be visiting for the spring game with Good Counsel teammates.

Greg Garmon (#11, #65) – could play other positions at 6’2", but most schools want him at RB. There is Michigan interest, but has stated he would like to play in the south.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Dorial Green-Beckham (#1 WR, #2 overall) – Dorial is an absolute freak of nature and will be a very tough get. The only reason I put him in here is because he and Zeke Pike have been talking. I can dream right??

Stefon Diggs (#2 S, #16 ) – Scout projects Diggs as a safety, but most schools want him at wide out. He will be visiting for the spring game.

Aaron Burbridge (#11, #84) – most think he is a Sparty lean, but you never know.

Dwayne Stanford (#16, #106) – grew up watching Michigan and seems pretty open.

Malik Gilmore (#40, #259) – seems to be intrigued by Michigan and Notre Dame and is open.

Only one new offer to report this week, but this is a HUGE visit weekend as Michigan will be hosting around 30 or so prospects.

New Offers

OH offensive guard Caleb Stacey made it in last week as well and picked up a Michigan offer. He had a fantastic visit which vaulted UM to the top of his list. Looking very good with Stacey.

PA running back Drew Harris. One of the top backs in the country, Drew has offers from all over the nation.

Halo List

– Linebacker Jeremiah Tshimanga – Oklahoma State

2012 Recruiting Update

2012 Recruiting Board

The 2012 recruiting season has started off pretty slow commitment wise for the University of Michigan so far, but the coaches have been hard at work sending out verbal offers so far. By my count, Coach Hoke and Co. have given out 121 (give or take one or two) verbal offers as of today.

Recent Offers

– California Quarterback Zach Kline. The newly named Army All-American has already verballed to Cal. Not likely to go anywhere for UM.

– Rockford, MI offensive tackle Ben Braden.

– Very highly touted Apopka, FL offensive center/guard Ty Darlington.

– Texas offensive lineman Trey Keenan.

– Georgia defensive end Jordan Jenkins.

Halo List

Offensive tackle Taylor Decker – Notre Dame

– Offensive tackle Mike Madaras – Maryland

– Offensive Guard Dan Voltz – Wisconsin

– Defensive End  Mario Edwards – Florida State

A Chat with Kyle Dodson

Kyle Dodson is one of the best offensive linemen in the state of Ohio for the 2012 recruiting class. Offensive tackle is a major need for Michigan’s class and Dodson will surely be one of Big Blue’s highest priorities.

Sean O’Connell: Who do you have offers from at this point?

Kyle Dodson: “I have offers from Michigan State, Illinois, West Virginia, North Carolina State, Michigan, and Ohio.”

Sean O’Connell: So many people assume that most Ohio kids grew up Buckeye fans, is that the case with you? If not, do you follow for a certain team?

Kyle Dodson: “I grew up a Buckeyes fan, but that has nothing to do with where I will fit in the best and where I will choose to study and play football.”

Sean O’Connell: When you make the final decision on a school, what are the main factors you will be looking at?
