Coaches Predict Conference Standings

Press Release from Big Ten:

Park Ridge, Ill. – Wisconsin has been chosen as the preseason favorite for the inaugural season of Big Ten hockey as voted on by the coaches, the conference announced on Thursday. The coaches also selected a Preseason Players to Watch list, highlighted by unanimous selection Kyle Rau of Minnesota.

The Badgers won 22 games last season and advanced to the NCAA Championship. The Gophers, who won a conference-high 26 games last season and also earned a berth in the NCAA Championship, were voted to finish second this season. Michigan was selected to finish third, Michigan State and Ohio State were projected to tie for fourth, with Penn State rounding out the poll.

The Preseason Players to Watch list features 13 student-athletes, with Rau the lone unanimous selection. Wisconsin led the way with four honorees, followed by Minnesota with three selections and Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State with two honorees each.

The 2013-14 season begins on Oct. 10, while Big Ten play opens Nov. 29 with each team taking part in a 20-game slate.

Adversary Update: Penn State Nittany Lions

4-Star QB Recruit Michael O’Connor committed to Penn State Tuesday. In an interview with Black Shoe Diaries, he had the following to say on playing alongside Christian Hackenberg:

“Yes it will be great getting to know him and work with him, he’s a great quarterback. I haven’t got to meet him yet though.”

The Associated Press reports that the trustees at the school are hard at work to lower the sanctions levied against the school.

In an interview, AD David Joyner says he expects current football head coach Bill O’Brien will stay in Happy Valley for a long time.

The University is exploring having a hockey game played at Beaver Stadium in 2014.

The season opener at Syracuse is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 on August 31st at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Top Selling Institutions & Manufacturers (2011-2012)

The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) recently announced its rankings of top selling institutions & manufacturers for the 2011-2012 year. After coming in 4th last year, Michigan came in 5th, still far and away the leaders of the Big Ten teams. Kentucky jumped up four spots from 7th after winning the national title. O$U is not a member of the CLC.
