Tight end will be a major focus for the Michigan 2012 recruiting class, and Devin Funchess is one of the best in the midwest. Devin received a Michigan offer earlier this week and he also has one from Illinois. He will surely be one of the Wolverines top tight end targets this year and he was nice enough to answer a few questions for UMGoBlog!!
Sean O’Connell: How many offers do you hold?
Devin Funchess: "I only have the offer from michigan so far."
Sean O’Connell: What are your top three factors when looking at schools?
Devin Funchess:" Well I like to know about the colleges academic program and how its ran, how the coaches act and work with it’s players and lastly how the program works and how I would fit into it."
Sean O’Connell: Does location matter?
Devin Funchess: "Location doesn’t matter I would just like to go where i best fit in."
Sean O’Connell: Do you have a school you grew up cheering for? If so will that factor into your decision?
Devin Funchess: "Well, when I was younger I loved Michigan State in basketball, but as I got older I started loving football more and more and kind of gave up basketball. But that has nothing to do with my decision in picking a school to go to in the near future."
Sean O’Connell: Do you have a top list of schools yet?
Devin Funchess: "Well I don’t really have a list in order. As they come I look into all of their information and what I like in the program."
Sean O’Connell: Are you hoping to play with any former/current teammates at the next level?
Devin Funchess: "Well I was hoping to go with both Mario(Ojemudia) and Aaron(Burbridge), but things don’t always go as planned, but if it does I would like that happen so we can keep growing up as men together."
Sean O’Connell: Do you have a time line for your decision?
Devin Funchess: "Well, not really yet i’m just going to take it slow and let things play out I don’t want to force my decision."
Sean O’Connell: Can you describe your game for me? What makes Devin Funchess a good player and what does he have to work on?
Devin Funchess: "I am an explosive player that will go get the ball where ever you put it. I have to work on my speed and try to get it down."
Sean O’Connell: Has the new staff contacted you?
Devin Funchess: "No not really. I know they have a good coach in Brady Hoke coming from San Diego State. I think he will fit right in because of his experience from his old U of M days."
Sean O’Connell: Are you interested in Michigan and their new staff?
Devin Funchess: "I think it’s going to be an interesting year for them in switching offenses but they have great players that would fit into it very nicely."
Sean O’Connell: Does the type of offense you play in matter?
Devin Funchess: "This year we kind of went to our passing attack so we went to like a spread but the pro type is very good and should be a good fit for me."
Sean O’Connell: Where does Michigan rank on your list?
Devin Funchess: "Well, as I said earlier I really don’t have a ranking system so I just have to do some more evaluations."
