On Michigan: “Michigan has a great tradition. They’ve won more games than any other program in college football and they have 11 national championships. Coach Rodriguez has a history of winning. He’s won every place he’s been. Once he gets his recruits in there it’s just a matter of time until they get things turned around.”

On informing Jim Harbaugh he was de-committing from Stanford: “That was one of the toughest conversations I’ve ever had in my life. I was committed to them for two months and we had already established a very good relationship. This is nothing against Stanford. I loved it out there when I visited."Varsity Blue

Scouts, Inc: “Avery is an exceptional athlete that his only limited by his physical size. He is light weight but has very good speed and excellent quickness. Doubles as a defensive back and a spread formation quarterback. Has good hips and can turn and change direction without any loss of balance or control. Shows the ability to play man to man coverage as a corner and can run stride for stride with the wideout on the takeoff route. Closes quickly on the receiver when playing zone coverage. Displays good tackling abilities but size makes it difficult to really explode through the ball carrier. As a spread quarterback, is a true running threat but also has a strong arm. Very shifty and elusive runner that has quickness and ability to get the ball to the perimeter to break contain. Elusiveness helps him avoid the rush and his athleticism and awareness allows him to make positive yards out of potentially negative plays. Avery is one of those athletes that can be a cover corner at the next level due to his overall quickness, football skills and competitiveness.”
