On June 25, Michael named Michigan, Notre Dame & Penn State as his final three.

Sean O’Connell, “Ferns is a great athlete and is a jack of all trades for his team, playing running back, full back, linebacker and even tight end. As a linebacker Michael is super aggressive and a very instinctual player. Once he finds the ball, he gets to the ball carrier in an instant and more often than not makes the tackle. He is a very, very smart kid and also does a really good job of shedding blocks. Ferns is already a big kid at 6’3” 235 lbs., but after a few years in a college strength program this kid could be an absolute monster. I see a more athletic Joe Bolden when I watch Ferns. Expect him to be a top 5 player in Ohio and one of the top LB’s in the Midwest for the 2014 class. Michael and his parents will be attending the BBQ at The Big House in a few weeks and is down to Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State as his final three teams.”

Jon Jennings, “His offer list says it all. Ferns already has a nice lean 235 pound frame where he could easily put on a lot of good weight. He is a hardnosed, tough football player who is pretty athletic for his size. Will line up at running back, wide receiver or tight end for his Ohio High school team but he makes his name known on the defensive side of the ball where he has great instincts and the ability to run sideline to sideline as well as anyone. He is very strong at the point of contact and is a pretty good defender against the pass. He’ll have to get stronger over the next few years and show scouts that he can dominate at a level that does not look too competitive.”
