Michigan Football Recruiting Update (4/8/11)

Scout.com recently released its top 300 prospects list for the 2012 class. Below is a list of kids who have expressed interest in Michigan and where we stand.

QUARTERBACKS

Gunner Kiel (#1 QB, #17 overall) – has an offer. ND lean? Not sure about his interest level in Michigan, but if Maty Mauk were to commit to ND first that could open things up.

Zeke Pike (#3 , #25) – has visited. Michigan is high on his list.

Maty Mauk (#5, #116) – has visited. Another ND lean? If not, Michigan is right up there.

Bennie Coney (#22, NR) – Coney just missed the top 300 and is a offer from RR and crew. There was still some interest a while back, but I would imagine he is further down the big board of QB’s.

RUNNING BACKS

Keith Marshall (#1 RB, #5 overall) – A kid everybody wants. Recently narrowed his list to around 12 schools, with Michigan being one of them.

Bri’onte Dunn (#4, #28) – an OSU verbal, but will visit Michigan at some point.

Wes Brown (#6, #44) – will be visiting for the spring game with Good Counsel teammates.

Greg Garmon (#11, #65) – could play other positions at 6’2", but most schools want him at RB. There is Michigan interest, but has stated he would like to play in the south.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Dorial Green-Beckham (#1 WR, #2 overall) – Dorial is an absolute freak of nature and will be a very tough get. The only reason I put him in here is because he and Zeke Pike have been talking. I can dream right??

Stefon Diggs (#2 S, #16 ) – Scout projects Diggs as a safety, but most schools want him at wide out. He will be visiting for the spring game.

Aaron Burbridge (#11, #84) – most think he is a Sparty lean, but you never know.

Dwayne Stanford (#16, #106) – grew up watching Michigan and seems pretty open.

Malik Gilmore (#40, #259) – seems to be intrigued by Michigan and Notre Dame and is open.

TIGHT ENDS

Ron Thompson (#5, #137) – Michigan looking great here.

Devin Funchess (#6, #146) – Michigan’s best shot at one of the Farmington trio?

Taylor McNamara (#7, #165) – seems pretty intrigued about Michigan. Hopefully we can get an official.

Evan Baylis (#9, #224) – was going to visit in April, not sure if he made it in or not.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE

Avery Young (#4 OT, #13 overall) – Young keeps his recruitment very tight, but a visit is possible.

Jordan Diamond (#9, #40) – Michigan is still looking very good with Diamond.

Zach Banner (#11, #45) – banner recently said that Michigan is on him very hard and will probably come on an official.

Erik Magnuson (#17, #96) – likes Michigan and says they stick out right now along with Miami and Oregon.

J.J. Denman (#18, #110) – lists Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Wisconsin as his top four. A spring game visit is expected.

Paul Thurston (#19, #111) – plans on a May visit.

Shane Callahan (#24, #174) – made a visit to AA in March. He also has some family in Michigan.

Kyle Dodson (#29, #191) – visited AA a few weeks ago. He really likes Michigan and is starting to blow up quite a bit. Michigan should be there in the end.

Jonah Persig (#34, #225) – made a recent visit to Michigan and plans on coming back at some point.

Ben Braden (#43, NA) – Michigan commit. Just missed the top 300.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS

Jordan Simmons (#2 OG, #30 overall) – BEAST! His mentor is former Wolverine Courtney Morgan, hopefully that is enough to get a visit.

DEFENSIVE ENDS

Adolphus Washington (#3 DE, #21 Overall) – the best of the DE’s in Ohio. Claims to be open….. we’ll see.

Se’Von Pittman (#10, #78) – he did visit a few weeks ago, have heard nothing. Most people think he’s another OSU lock, but they can’t take them all.

Chris Wormley (#13, #112) – long time Michigan fan. His recruitment will likely come down to UM and OSU.

Jordan Watkins (#15, #126) – very intelligent. Wide open and plans to cutting his list down to 20 or so school very soon.

Greg McMullen (#20, #159) – another Ohio kid who will probably end up in Columbus, but claims to be open and might visit AA.

Tom Strobel (#23, #200) – in a normal year, Strobel might have been the best DE in Ohio. Likes the Bucks, but is open.

Jarontay Jones (#37, NA) – just missed out on the 300. Followed Michigan for a long time and has family in Michigan as well. Talks very positively of the wolverines.

Matt Godin (#38, NA) – could it be just a matter of time before he commits to UM??

LaTroy Lewis (#41, NA) – not sure why he is ranked so low. Teammate of Greg McMullen, might visit.

Pharaoh Brown (#44, NA) – a bit of a project, but has a ton of talent. Visited a few weeks ago and plans on another this week.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE

Jarron Jones (#2 DT, #12 Overall) – received his UM offer about a month and a half ago, seemed pretty interested.

Tommy Schutt (#6, #46) – is making the rounds this spring and summer, including Michigan.

Aziz Shittu (#7, #50) – fast rising Cali star has expressed Um interest. Stanford will be tough to beat.

Sheldon Day (#9, #64) – Day and his mother visited Ann Arbor a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. Michigan is in good shape.

Vincent Valentine (#13, #98) – another kid who has been very quiet, but is planning on narrowing his list soon.

Danny O’Brien (#14, #141) – Tennessee lean?? UM still looks good, but has a little ground to make up on the Vols.

Ondre Pipkins (#17, #188) – for some reason Scout has Mario Ojemudia as a DT, so I’m moving Pipkins up one spot to #17 for them. List UM in his top 8ish group. A visit could go a long way.

MIDDLE LINEBACKERS

James Ross (#2 ILB, #72 Overall) – pretty quiet as well, but the thought is that Michigan is in good shape with Ross.

Kaleb Ringer (#8, #206)– Ringer has made it pretty clear that Michigan is his leader. He will announce next Friday.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

Kwon Alexander (#1 OLB, #15 Overall) – long shot, but he is considering all offers and will narrow it down to 10 sometime soon.

Royce Jenkins-Stone (#7, #105) – the once strong Michigan lead has now backed off on that statement and claims to be open. Most think he will end up Blue in the end.

Joe Bolden (#27, #238) – has a top three of Michigan, Cincinnati and Kentucky with Michigan on top. Could he be on the verge of committing?

Mario Ojemudia – again for some odd reason Scout has him ranked as a DT so I’m not quite sure where to rank him. Probably #15-20 OLB and around #175ish nationally. At Michigan he would be an OLB or a DE. He is probably a Sparty lean, but a recent visit to Michigan has upped the interest a little bit.

CORNERBACKS

Terry Richardson (#8 CB, #139 Overall) – the Cass Tech product is open to all suitors. Michigan has work to do.

Armani Reeves (#10, #177) – visited a few weeks ago and seemed to enjoy it. Will take other visits.

SAFETY’S

LaDarrell McNeil (#4 S, #52 Overall) – another kid that has been very quiet, but open.

Jarrod Wilson (#10, #151) – enjoyed his visit in February putting Michigan high on his list. Offering his teammate WR Corey Smith may go a long way with Wilson.

Deon Bush (#15, #222) – a little underrated in my book, Deon has stated a few times that a Michigan visit is in his future plans.

Wayne Morgan (#19, #263) – another recent visitor who had a good time and possibly might make it back in for the spring game.

ATHLETES

Ronald Darby (#2 CB, #47 Overall) – one of the fastest kids in the country, Darby has been concentrating on track for the most part. With track winding down his recruitment will pick up. Michigan might get a visit. He will probably be a corner, but running back is a possibility.

Devin Fuller (#10 QB, #163 Overall) – wants to play QB in college, so we’ll kind of see where that goes.
