Here are the headliners that are expected to be in Ann Arbor sometime this coming week and a few of my thoughts on some of them. Many of the current 2013 commits will be in attendance, but Shane Morris and Laquon Treadwell will not be due to the Gridiron King’s Tourney. This list will probably change so keep checking back.
Devon Allen (2013-WR-AZ) – One of the fastest prospects in the country is finally making it up to Michigan after a long track season. Chances with Allen seem pretty low right now, mainly because of his desire to play football and run track at the school of his choice. Michigan does have a decent track program B1G wise, but it is a national track power. I’m sure that he’ll enjoy his visit to AA, but I’d expect schools like Arkansas, Texas, Oregon and LSU to have a better shot at Devon.
Derrick Green (2013-RB-VA) – The very talented Green has been on a Southern road trip recently visiting the likes of Auburn and Ole Miss, and also has visits to Ohio State and Michigan coming up this week. Derrick visited earlier this past spring, but was unable to talk to Coach Hoke so it will be crucial for he and his family to be able to bond with Brady. Green recently released a top 13 schools of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He has recently added Georgia to that list after the Bulldogs offered. I have a better feeling about Green than most and Michigan has a great opportunity here. I expect the Wolverines to make a decent leap up Derrick’s board. OSU is now out of the race.
Michael Ferns (2014-LB-OH-UM Offer) – This will be second visit to AA for Ferns, but first with his entire family. Ferns came out with a top 3 of Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State, but one would have to imagine that PSU is now out of the race for is services. I really get the feeling that Michigan is in great position to land Ferns. Commit watch??
Damon Webb (2014-CB-MI-UM Offer) – The very talented Webb has been making quite a name for himself this summer. So far he’s received offers from LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, West Virginia and Wisconsin. He and his father have made it no secret that they are Michigan fans, but Webb has not named a leader. It wouldn’t shock me if he committed, but I don’t expect him to.
Mason Cole (2014-OG-FL-UM Offer) – One of the top OL’s in Florida, Cole has already made a bunch of visits this summer and is planning to visit Ohio State and Michigan this week. The 2014 prospect already has around 15 offers.
Clifton Garrett (2014-LB-IN) – One of the top linebackers in the country for next year. Not sure if he’ll be offered or not due to linebacker numbers.
Jamarco Jones (2014-OT-IL-UM Offer) – Michigan is doing very well in the Land of Lincoln and the trend very well could continue with Jones. He has already visited one time earlier this summer (he was offered) and will make his way back up on Sunday.
Parrker Westphal (2014-CB-IL-UM Offer) – Not confirmed. If he Westphal does make the trip, it will be his third time to Ann Arbor.
Tommy Doles (2014-OT-MI-UM Offer) – Not confirmed.
Montae Nicholson (2014-S-PA-UM Offer) – Not confirmed.
**NEW** D’Andre Payne (2014-CB-MD)
Other Possible July Visits
Jay Hayes (2014-OL/DL-NY-UM Offer) – Grew up a Michigan fan. Already has 10 offers.
K.C. McDermott (2014-OT-FL-UM Offer) – Heading up north for Midwest road trips to Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and OSU.
