Central Michigan Game Prediction

Finally the incredibly long off season is over, and Team 134 is ready to take the field. While many have been saying the 2014 season will be the one where Brady Hoke has a full compliment of "his" players and will finally be removed from the speed bump known as the Rich Rod era, this team should hardly be discounted. Devin Gardner - 11

There has been a continual building of talent since Brady took over in January 2011. With only 15 seniors, the talent on this team is obviously young but it’s top notch.

While Michigan is replacing 3 OL, with all due respect to Team 133, it will be an upgrade, at least at some point in the season. Jack Miller, Graham Glasglow and Kyle Kalis, look to bolster subpar line play, and bookend tackles Lewan and Schofield might just be the best tandem in the country.

The stable of running backs harken back to the days of Bo stomping the sidelines, with several potential great backs toting the leather this fall. Fitz Touissant will be the first, and if OC AL Borges has his way, will carry the lion share of the load. Drake Johnson, fresh off his redshirt, comes in after impressive bowl practices and spring camp, looking for carries, as do true freshman Derrick Green and Deveon Smith, both among the nations top tailbacks.

Jeremy Gallon has grown into QB Devin Gardner’s favorite target, and with the fall camp injury to likely #2 Amara Darboh, there are some questions as to who will step up. I believe RS Freshman Jehu Chesson will be that guy . He has the talent, but is still somewhat raw. Speed is one of his strengths however, so stretching the field at 6’3 is a good thing.

While QB is a position of strength for Team 134, depth isn’t there. Many close to the program have raved about Devin Gardner’s ability to make plays. He has great talent, but still only has 5 career starts under his belt. Shane Morris coming in as a true freshman has obvious 5* talent, but needs to learn the offense, and hasn’t played much in a year since missing a large part of his senior year of HS with mono.

The Blueprint to Filling Out the 2013 Class

Michigan currently has 18 commits for its 2013 recruiting class and with the recent departure of Chris Rock, look for the Wolverines to sign anywhere between 22 and 24 prospects. So with 5 or so spots remaining here are some of the positions and prospects to keep an eye on during the upcoming months.

Running Back (1 more?)

Ty IsaacDerrick Green - UMGoBlue

At one point it seemed that Michigan had a pretty sizable lead in the Isaac Sweepstakes, but he has recently committed to USC. Visiting a school that far away twice on your own dime should’ve told you that his interest in the Trojans was/is quite serious. I know that there are people out there that believe DeVeon Smith’s pledge was a deciding factor with Ty, but it wasn’t. You all know that SC is about to get another very good back in Justin Davis right?

Derrick Green

Its pretty obvious that the Michigan coaches want Isaac as the second back in this class. I happen to like Green just as much and would seem to make the perfect plan B. There have been a lot of fluff about Green favoring certain schools, but he recently cleared up some of those rumors. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out over the coming months.

Jordan Wilkins

Seems like an option now, we’ll see if he visits.

2013 Recruiting: So What’s Next?

I love football recruiting. National Letter of Intent Day is one of my favorite days of the year, but it can be somewhat boring if your school isn’t in the running for many prospects. For Michigan, Commitmas Day came a little late, or a little early depending on how you look at it. I for one will never forget 2/18/2012. A day when my beloved Wolverines received verbal commitments from six four star prospects in a matter of 12ish hours.

For Michigan, Commitmas Day came a little late, or a little early depending on how you look at it. I for one will never forget 2/18/2012. A day when my beloved Wolverines received verbal commitments from six four star prospects in a matter of 12ish hours. Kyle Bosch (4 star OG/OT), Wyatt Shallman (4 star athlete), David Dawson (3/4 star OG/OC), Jourdan Lewis (3/4 star CB), Chris Fox (4 star OT) and Taco Charlton (4 star LB/DE) all pledged for UM on the same day that the Wolves beat OSU in hoops. Oh yeah, the next day Jake Butt (4 star TE) and Logan Tuley-Tillman (4 star OT) also dropped. Then there was a two day drought until the tall and lanky Jaron Dukes (probable 3 star) committed, followed by a lengthy 3 day hiatus when 4 star OL Patrick Kugler decided to sign up. Those nine verbals brought Michigan’s total commits for the 2013 class up to 13. With 9ish spots left where will the staff decide to go with the rest?

Quarterback  (DONE)

Commits: Shane Morris

Prospects: With 5 star Shane Morris already in the fold it will be pretty hard to lure in another quarterback anyways, so Michigan is likely done here. There have been rumbling of Riley Ferguson possibly visiting Michigan this spring, but the odds of him signing with the Maize and Blue are next to zero. Henry Poggi’s teammate Shane Cockerille could be a possibility, but there is some speculation of whether or not his offer is committable, if he even has one at all.
