Betting The Big Ten

Using the lines from, I’m going to attempt to pick three lines around Big Ten Games that I would bet on with jelly beans:

1) Putting aside rivalries my first pick would be to take Michigan State to beat Ohio State. Ohio State is currently favored by 3.5, but right now the Spartans are the third best team in the conference. They are clearly better than Ohio State and a loss would be a letdown for them in my opinion.

2) In the individual player section, Russell Wilson is favored by 48.5 total yards over Taylor Martinez. I’d favor Taylor Martinez as Wisconsin will stick to the run game and jump ahead in the first half. I can see Wilson leading this bet until the 4th quarter, when Martinez’s garbage yardage carries him to the victory.

3) In the team lines games, I would take Wisconsin to cover the three first down spread against Nebraska. Its not hard to imagine the Badger offense rolling down the field several times and racking up many first downs while Nebraska scores a few times on long plays and gets a bunch of first downs at the end, but not enough to pull within three of the Russell Wilson led Badger O.

Beating Vegas At All Costs

Beating Vegas, College Football Bets, Bowl Games was gracious enough to give me $500 this holiday season to put my sports knowledge to the test.  The premise: Beat Vegas at all costs.

Okay, so enough though the guys at UMGoBlog are generally awesome people, I might be exaggerating a bit about my new holiday wallet-stuffer.

I have, however, given myself a fictitious $500 bankroll in the hopes of providing you some useful and entertaining knowledge for some upcoming bowl games.  I even somehow managed to include a future or current member of the Big 10 in each one of my picks. That being said, here’s my best crack at beating Vegas.

Pick 1: University of Nebraska Banner (-14) vs. University of Washington Banner — $150

This is a rematch of a September 18th showdown in Seattle in which the Cornhuskers came into the always-hostile Husky Stadium and smacked around the hometown boys 56-21.  In the matchup of top-tier quarterbacks, it was the younger Taylor Martinez who got the job done.  On the other side of the ball, the Nebraska Black Shirts made preseason No. 1 NFL Draft Pick Jake Locker essentially disappear.  Locker went 4-for-20 on the day and Martinez and his solid running mate Roy Helu exposed the Huskies defense in an downright onslaught.  Despite the injuries to Martinez, I expect him to be healthy for the December 30th rematch, and that means a whole lot more of the same.  Huskers win this one — big.

Pick 2: University of Wisconsin Banner vs. Texas Christian University Banner OVER 58 — $200
