The Michigan Quarterback Dilemma

With Zeke Pike committing to Auburn on Wednesday, what does Michigan do about the future of the quarterback position? I have to imagine that they want to sign a QB nearly every year and this year IMO is very critical that we do. So where do we go from here? Below are a list of potential candidates.

Most Likely Candidates

Austin Appleby – North Canton, OH – 6’5" 230. Good sized kid. There have been a few rumors that he’s been offered, but I have not been able to confirm this yet. He has decent mobility and a good arm. He did miss part of last season due to a knee injury, so there are some questions with his health. Offers: Akron, Kent State, Temple and Toledo.

Tyler O’Connor – Lima, OH – 6’3" 210. I actually like him more than Appleby. Throws very well on the run and can really spin the ball. WOTS is that interest has been gaining with him over the past week with the knowledge of Pike likely committing to Auburn. Offers: Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and some MAC schools.

Grant Bays: “We are 7-2  with 5 (now 6)  straight wins. Our first loss was against nationally ranked Servite out here.”

Sean O’Connell: What positions do you play?

Grant Bays: “Starting as a left tackle on offense and nose tackle on defense. Last year, varsity center.”

Sean O’Connell: Do you prefer one position over the other?

Grant Bays: “I hope to play center again. I think that’s where my college and pro position will be.”

Sean O’Connell: Have you been receiving any mail from schools yet?

Grant Bays: “A lot from UCLA, USC, Northwestern, Duke, Boston College and Stanford. Went to meet coaches and see games at UCLA, USC and Stanford so far.”

Grant Bays: “No.”

Sean O’Connell: What are your strengths as a football player and what do you need to work on?

Grant Bays: “I’m a natural athlete, very quick for a big dude. I was a division one/mid-round pitching prospect before giving up baseball. Weaknesses would be learning plays.”

Sean O’Connell: I know that you have a year or so of high school left, but have you thought about what you want to study at college?

Grant Bays: “Environmental sciences or computer/graphic arts /sound productions.”

Sean O’Connell: Is distance from home going to be a significant factor when you choose a school?

Grant Bays: “Sort of. I would miss my mom and my friends, but I want to go to a school with lots of history and traditions.”

Sean O’Connell: What are you looking for in a college? When you sit down with your folks to make that final choice, what are the main factors that you will consider?
